A brief history of the pop video/pop music

American domination - in the 1950's the only way fans could see Elvis Priestly was to see his films and then buy his albums.
The only way fans could see Cliff Richard was on tours, reality shows or films (Summer Holiday) where they could then buy his albums straight after.
Needle time - BBC only allowed people to watch their favourite artists sing on tv for no more than 4 hours a week. Also, it wasn't the real artists just the amateurs singing it.
In the 1960's pirate radios were introduced and was the only way to hear 'The Beatles,' 'The rolling stones' and 'The who.' The first pirate radio was Radio Caroline.
BBC radio 1 - Top of the pops -
The Beatles even produced their own films with their songs included so, they wouldn't have to perform in front of so many fans. This was also to please fans and to further promote their records. Their first films were 'Paperback writer' and 'Rain.'
